I’ve always thought Oxford is a pretty good place in terms of LGBTQ+ acceptance and representation. As you know, sadly nowhere in the world is fully immune to bigotry and prejudice (in “liberal” and “gay-friendly” London a lesbian couple were only recently beaten up on a bus), but Oxford is definitely an open-minded city and a safe, welcoming space for the LGBTQ+ community. Aside from the uni’s sizeable LGBTQ+ society and numerous events, almost everyone I’ve ever spoken to, even those who identify as conservative, tend to be supportive of LGBTQ+ issues. I always felt like people’s sexuality and gender identity were never considered an issue and being openly queer, if anything, was celebrated and embraced.
