I completely agree that friendships are just as important as romantic relationships – even though your partner should also be your friend, I believe it is vital to develop external platonic bonds. The beauty of friendships is that they can offer a deep level of emotional intimacy, honesty and trust without the sexual tension which accompanies romantic relationships. The physicality/sensuality of romance can sometimes become intoxicating and overwhelming, and friendships provide a more level-headed outlet in which to receive affection. It’s a pity sometimes that people don’t realise the value of their friends while being in relationships, and will later come to regret losing them along the way.
