Hi Travis (or “cF Tempest”😉), thank you for your insightful response! As for online friendships, I think they honestly depend on the individual situation. There isn’t a one-size-fits-all type. Some can certainly be just as powerful, if not more so, than those in real life, and others will remain relegated to the digital world. Online friends are more-or-less the modern-day equivalent of pen pals. I think that part of the reason why it’s becoming harder to make friends today is because society is increasingly fast-paced (I honestly think it isn’t so difficult making friends as opposed to keeping them!), so online relationships shouldn’t be a substitute to the effort it takes to develop a long-lasting bond irl. But I certainly do think that online friendships can be very strong and that social media will continue to grow as a relationship-building platform.
